Our unconventional origins come from years working in the museum and heritage sector both on a national and international platform. At Unconventional Design we care about our local community and do what we can to help facilitate and assist local groups. This has included art projects with The Prince’s Trust, a street art community mural design with The Kyra Women’s project, several school art projects and the design session and installation of a mural at the Wetherby Young Offenders Institute.

The Playhive

Unconventional Design were commissioned to take on the mammoth task of the build and finishing of the entirely bespoke play equipment for one of Europe’s largest indoor play centres unveiled at Stockeld Park in July 2022.

Ghosts in the Gardens

Unconventional Design were approached by the Yorkbid to design and create bespoke wire mesh ghosts for an Autumn installation around York city centre.

London Science Museum Space Shuttle

Unconventional Design had the pleasure and privilege to design, develop and build a major exhibit for what will be a worldwide touring exhibition, being initially staged within the Science Museum in central London, titled ‘Voyage To The Edge of Imagination’

Indoor golf course for Lane 7, Edinburgh

Unconventional Design were awarded the contract to design and build a 14 hole indoor golf course for the very successful chain, Lane 7 who have indoor dining and entertainment venues throughout the country.

The Adventures at Stockeld Park

Working here since its origins as the lead design and build team bringing to life an exciting children’s adventure play site complete with enchanted woodland walk full of themed interactive fairy tale sculptures and installations as well as numerous playgrounds.

Spark: York CIC

Principle contractor and primary design and build team for the Spark: York community interest project including a community arts programme bringing in collectives of internationally renowned artists.

We gave the year 11 common room area a total refurbishment.
