Here, James and Clare co designed an enchanted woodland walk which houses many interactive themed fairy tale sculptures as well as numerous themed playground areas. The playgrounds, aimed at different age ranges and abilities, include a tangle tree rope assault course, several themed play areas with slides and climbing apparatus and a large tree house climbing area featuring bridges, climbing equipment and zip wires.
At Stockeld Park, UD also designed and worked with tradesmen and building surveyors on the construction of a large scale building that would house six Santa’s grottos made from a timber frame with timber cladding and fully themed inside.
As well as this, James was the lead joiner on all joinery aspects of the conversion of a huge tin shed farm building into a fully insulated, weather tight multi-purpose space including offices, staff and public toilet facilities, staff kitchen, main shop and store room and main atrium area for public use. The outside of this building was designed by UD and clad in timber to imitate a ski chalet to fit into the surrounding countryside and woodland and UD co designed the current café layout themed to look like a country lodge fitted out in timber cladding and painted murals to create an inviting, comfortable and practical space for serving food to large numbers of people.
A Labour of love, the Unconventional Design team are part of the DNA of this growing site and still remain a central part of its expansion. We are currently building all the play pieces and wall murals for their new indoor play arena which boasts to be one of the
largest in Europe.
