Unconventional Design were approached by the Yorkbid to design and create bespoke wire mesh ghosts for an Autumn installation around York city centre.
We first showcased the ghosts in October 2021 and after an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from locals and tourists, The Yorkbid asked UD to expand on the ghosts with a further 15 to be created and displayed for 2 months in Autumn 2022.
Our incredibly talented team of sculptors helped us come up with the concept of creating realistic looking figures which all told a story connected to York’s famous history. The project has really evolved into not just an eerie installation but a great look into York’s fascinating past.
Made using aluminium mesh and hard graft, the eerie looking ghosts really come alive in the natural settings of York City Centre gardens, always presenting a different look depending on the light and time of day. These ghosts have seen thousands of people flock to see their beauty and have been enjoyed by many.
The Ghosts in the Gardens project was also recognised at the National BID awards wining top spot for place marketing.
